5 out of 5 stars Fantastic (on a college student's budget)!   September 8, 2010

It was affordable, it was shipped in a very timely manner, and I needed no help or support. I took it out of the box, plugged it in, ran the disk that came with it, and restarted my system. Setup was literally seconds and it detected more networks than my old laptop ever uses to detect in the building.

ONE THING: and this isn't a problem, so much as a suggestion for other users. DO NOT try to use it through Windows. Rather, if you install the system from the disk, use the config utility that comes on the disk. I believe someone else suggested not using the disc at all, but I had forgotten that and did already. So, I use the config utility in conjuction with Windows and it works perfectly. Occasionally, if the computer goes to sleep when I return, I have to "refresh" the connection but that happens with wireless connections.

The product itself is easy to use and does the job wonderfully! A wonderful value, especially on a college student's budget!

5 out of 5 stars Great Product, Easy Installation & Can't BEAT the price!   September 7, 2010

I was looking for a reasonable way to make my 2 desktops wireless. After several searches on different sites, reviews etc. I found this one to be the most reasonably priced with the best reviews. I received them in the mail within 2 days which was great.

I had no problem whatsoever in installing the software etc. From a previous review on winxp I did take their advice.

Am sure they will not mind me posting this to help you too. And want to thank them for posting:

This is a great product. Realtek has been for long time a great network interface card's chip provider. The chip on this device is indeed Realtek. This product provides good signal detection and seamless and stable connection. In order to achieve this, on Windows XP, DO NOT INSTALL program provided by the companion miniCD's autorun. Instead, plug the device and when Windows new hardware wizard ask for drivers use manual search. Then insert the miniCD and point to the correct directory on the CD according to your operating system. For Windows XP there's a folder named WinXP (:\WinXP). NOTE: I did not see the folder, but I installed it just the same and did not auto run the cd> Then let the hardware wizard install the device from there and it will use built-in Windows Wireless Connection Manager. This is far easier to use than vendor's software provided which is aimed at a very low control level (not for the average user).

It picked up the signals all around and I have 5 bars on each computer. Have been using it for a few days and noticed that the device does get warm in use. So I would suggest that it be in an area where it can have some type of ventilation. Hoping it continues to work this great for a long time. Also when we move to a two story where the main wireless router is and the desktop will be downstairs, that it will work as great as it does now. Which I am figuring it should. For the price it is well worth it. And with Amazon's return policy I had nothing to lose.

5 out of 5 stars Great value!   September 7, 2010

I had looked at in-store prices for a belkin usb adapter so that my daughter could get wifi from our belkin router in her room. It was over $50. I decided to check amazon, and on the page for that usb adapter I saw that people had bought this one instead. I read the reviews and bought it. It arrived a day earlier than I expected and it was very simple to install. It started working right away and my daughter has had no complaints about it and she watches youtube videos ALOT. The only negative thing is that it seems fragile. It would be pretty easy to snap it off when moving the computer. All in all it is a VERY good value.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic!   September 6, 2010

I bought three of these units for the three PCs in my home. The adapters are fantastic! My PC is at the far end of the house and the furthest from the hub. I am getting great performance compared to the previous interface I had (which went bad after about a three years). Where before I was getting a signal strength of 40-50%, now I get 70-80%. The ability to control the position of the antenna (which I did not have before) has been fabulous to optimize reception.

The WiFi card works perfectly with Windows 7 and Linux (PCLinuxOS and Ubuntu). You have to load the Windows drivers if you are installing in that OS, and it is recognized by Linux automatically.

Great product, especially at this price!
