Great way to speed up your online gaming September 9, 2010 W_Irizarry I was always living in the day of playing people online and having a 2 second lag. Especially with NCAA College Football. It gets very frustrating when you use the hit stick to tackle, and 2 seconds later, when the receiver is already past you, you do your hit stick. This is a great alternative.
Obviously you get the best reception when you can be directly connected do you internet via CAT5 cable. But in my house that's just not possible. I have a wireless router downstairs and my PS3 is upstairs. I had a Linksys WRT54G2 router cable of Wireless G speeds and I wanted to upgrade my internet speed. So I purchased the Linksys WRT320N Wireless N Router. I still saw no improvement with my PS3 online gaming. I started reading up on the PS3 and it's built with an on-board wireless G card. So regardless if your wireless router is a G or an N, your PS3 will only be able to do G capability. Well this item fixes that. By plugging this in to yours PS3, you are using your Ethernet card rather then your wireless card, which is capable of much higher speeds. And with this being an N rater router, you can now receive N speeds wirelessly. The setup is easy too. They give step by step instructions and it's dummy proof.
I gave up! September 4, 2010 SDK 3 Tech Support phone calls later I gave up! Works fine when just configured - 2 days later it can't find the network!!! Now nothing.... Bargain price - less than bargain performance!!
Great Ethernet Adapter...Not Just For Game Consoles September 4, 2010 J. Battig (United States) I wanted to stay away from USB adapters since an ethernet adapter would be a bit more versatile, and this one fit the bill with its low price as well. I was surprised at how small it actually is, since the pictures don't really give you a good idea of the dimensions. The web GUI made it easy to configure this to work with my laptop, BluRay player and XBOX 360. It has so far worked flawlessly with all three, although I will mainly use it for the BluRay player and the game console. I will update this review as I get more use out of this product, but so far I am extremely pleased with the performance and recommend it over the dedicated console wireless adapters.
Trendnet TEW-647GA September 3, 2010 Steve (Northern Calif.) Functions as it should - works great.
I had a slight problem initially setting this up, but it was my fault.
Only real complaint is the manual that comes with it needs to written better to be more easily understood.
Nice product for the price for sure!
Good product, horrible documentation and configuration. September 1, 2010 Daniel --This review contains information for users with advanced knowledge of networking--
I am familiar with these types of devices, and I was looking for one for awhile when I found this. I needed a device to bridge my own wireless router into another wireless router, so I asked for this as a gift from someone. Functionally, it works great, but it requires some advanced knowledge to work. When I first got it, the LAN link would not work; after much testing I found that its LAN port was defective. The documentation was horribly inadequate when trying to troubleshoot this issue, apparently the designers never thought that the Ethernet light might not come on and did not document this. I sent a return request in via Amazon, and they handled it extremely well; I got a replacement in 2 days with no fuss. I connected the replacement, and the LAN light came on instantly.
The first problem I got was that I did not get an IP address from the device, as the manual hinted that I should, and the default IP windows gave me prevented me from connecting to the device. The in-box manual made no mention of what the device's default IP address was. I downloaded the manual from the manufacturer's website and found it was 192.168.10.110. I set up my LAN port for a static IP to 192.168.10.254 with a subnet of 255.255.255.0 and was able to connect to it.
I connected it to my wireless router without incident, but I could not connect to the internet. I set the default gateway and primary DNS server to 192.168.10.110, but apparently the device does not forward DNS requests. Also, the device configuration website lists the IP address under LAN, and does not make any mention of WAN settings. I set the device and my network card back to obtain automatically, and then I was able to connect to the internet. One of the drawbacks to this is that I have to look at its IP address on the main router to be able to configure it, or configure it for a special address in the router's DHCP server. The name of the device is also not reported to the router, indicating someone messed up when they wrote the network protocols on this device. Also, I found an error message that was loosely translated from another language.
The product works, I would not recommend this for users without advanced knowledge of networking. The documentation is severely lacking, and some of the translation is not that good. The CD and in-box manual are of no help whatsoever for troubleshooting.
