| Customer Reviews: New to Sonicwall and LOVE it so far July 29, 2010 D. D. Dye (Las Vegas, NV) After battling with different VPN solutions for many years, our IT guy recommended the Sonicwall appliances. Our small business wasn't used to bucking up $300+ for routers. Looking at the $$$ wasted in the past on home grade hardware, we should have invested in this type of appliance years ago.
The GUI is pretty intuitive if you know what you're doing. To echo other reviewers, you need to have a certain level of understanding before tackling the advance config options. So far, we've seen better performance and reliability. I'm sure we'll experience the same with the security features as well.
Great, you paid - now pay more. July 27, 2010 skeptical joe 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The device has decent features but the advertised ability to connect via VPN won't work until you pay at least $50 bucks for their Windows client. A 2 user license is $50, unless you buy it right from SonicWall in which case it is only 1 user (which we bent over and paid for immediate license key). When you call them to find out why it doesn't have 5 user ability you get today's typical Indian support so you have to concentrate twice as hard just to stay in the conversation. What could have been a great solution left a really crappy taste in my mouth and next time I'll use something else.
Powerful Security and Flexible Configuration May 21, 2010 MrWizardTheElder (Fort Worth, TX) I purchased this for an attorney friend who needed VPN access to his office files while on the road. It works great for that, but in addition to a sophisticated firewall and VPN appliance, it also has the options for antivirus, antispam, malware protection, and intrusion protection. This provides a very high degree of protection for all computers behind the firewall without requiring software on the individual machines. I really liked the VPN client which installs from within a Web browser the first time you connect to the appliance remotely. After the initial installation, VPN access is two clicks away.
Configuration is very flexible, but not for the faint of heart. If you've had experience with a Cisco PIX or ASA, or one of the larger Multitech routers, the TZ-100 makes perfect sense. Otherwise the interface and the concepts of establishing routes and permissions can be more than a little daunting. However, the TZ-100 is fast, flexible, and loaded with features that make its price a real bargain.
Great firewall for the professional March 28, 2010 cw-mojo (New Jersey) We use Sonciwall appliances at work, so getting one of these for home use was a good fit for me. This is not a firewall for the casual user. There is quite a bit of knowledge required to configure this properly. However, for me, I was able to create two distinct segments; one that is a full time VPN to work, and the other for home Internet use. I also paid extra to get the content blocking, IPS, and Gateway AV. There is no feature this firewall doesn't have that I can determine.
Sonicwall is the best Small Business solution October 12, 2009 Amnon Feiner (Los Angeles) 11 out of 12 found this review helpful
We build about 4-5 small business networks a month, and switched to Sonic wall about a year ago. If you want to save and get a top quality product for a small business environment, this is what you need. Easy, intuitive, and best of wall works! Do not waste your money and big brand names, this one does exactly what is designed for.
