4 out of 5 stars Good compact bag but would have liked a bit more attention to ease of use   July 22, 2010
A. Srikanth
This ia good bag and it holds my netbook, Ipad, cooling pad and the chargers while retaining its shape and still remains lightweight

However, it would have been great if targus had put in a pair of zippers for each compartment instead of a single one so it becomes easy to close the sections instead of hunting for the zipper.

Targus also boasts a feature in this bag that in my opinion is useless and sometimes gets in the way. This is the ability to leave the netbook in the bag and work from within the bag. Given the heat the netbooks typically puts out, this is bad for 1) the bag 2) the netbook battery and 3) anything else you keep in the bag. However, one of the belt extensions that lets you keep the compartment open should you choose to work with a netbook in the bag as Targus wants you to often sticks out and gets caught in the zipper

I am taking away a star for the above two reasons but all in all still one of the better bags out there given that I tried two other bags before settling on this targus model

3 out of 5 stars Heavy even without books   July 19, 2010
L. Locker (Lawrence, KS United States)
I bought this rolling backpack for those times when my shoulders just can't take the load anymore. It works well as a rolling bag, but is a heavy bag, even before computers and books go in. The transition from shoulder to roller is a little awkward, as you have to take it off, stop, bend over and make sure both shoulder straps are well tucked in and out of the way; then proceed. The roller does work well, no tilting or tipping over, and it has been a durable bag. Just wish they could find a way to lighten it (or maybe the book!? Kindle?) up a bit.

4 out of 5 stars Nice Case, 3 problems   June 28, 2010

Very satisfied as to appearance, portability, comfort, and apparently durability.

However, there are Three problems regarding ease of use and design layout for my Dell 1012 that are immediately obvious:

First. the travel restraining strap for the netbook itself must be threaded through a buckle attached to the lower inner side of the case that is blocked by the netbook. This is a clumsy time-consuming situation, especially if you use your netbook on a plane, etc.. Easy fix -- the generous length strap is velcro with the hook part and the loop part end-to-end -- cut between the two parts and superglue the loose piece to the buckle (make sure the piece is facing the right way). Now, you can close the netbook lid, flip the overlapping velcro pieces together -- bingo -- your netbook is secure in under two seconds and you can zip the case closed.

The second problem is more troublesome: No access to a USB port while the netbook is in the case, even with a light weight flexible squid hub (which I recommend highly). Even one cutout in the case interior for a USB plug would have been really nice, but I not going to make that a DIY project.

Problem number 3 is a minor annoyance: the zipper is a single pull - left to right. A double pull zipper going from center to both sides would be a lot easier to deal with in crowded circumstances and would give a pull through for earplugs. My netbook has great battery life; why do I need to schlep along my ipod every time I travel?

While I'm on a rant:
Why don't the netbook manufacturers put at least one of the USB ports facing up near the keyboard? That would solve the second problem and give more elbow room when using the netbook in coach. Do the techies ever field test the ergonomics?

4 out of 5 stars Not 100% but still the best wheeled backpack available   June 19, 2010

My 12 year old son has tried virtually every wheeled backpack on the market. We require a large capacity (2000 cubic inches+) wheeled backpack to be able to fit his textbooks, planner, school supplies, water bottle, gym clothes, and assorted other odds and ends. When full, these result in a load too heavy to be comfortably lifted-hence the need for a wheeled pack. Said pack has to go up and down multiple flights of stairs at his school daily, in and out of 2 separate carpools, and travels on planes for trips. No back pack we have ever purchased has lasted one full school year, including this one-but, this has been the best and longest lasting of what we've tried. The Jansport Driver 8 is our second choice, but the second main compartment droops on the ground when filled, causing the fabric to rip almost imemdiately from being scraped. It is $12 more expensive than the Targus (at least when we bought it), 2 inches smaller in width, and 1 inch smaller in depth, and hence 2 pounds lighter. But like I said-for durability and capacity issues it gets second place. The targus has more options for organizing stuff and has more capacity, and it has a more durable bottom, and it's cheaper. However 1 week before school ended, the handle snapped off. Still, like I said, we've never had a backpack last a year so I still give this high marks. For the record, we have also tried Lands End and LL Bean rolling backpacks, samsonite, and a few others. I will be buying another Targus for my son for next year.
